What Is FFF
Fresh Fruit Friday means a different thing to just about everyone it affects. To the schools staff it makes their day easier, happier, and more smooth sailing. For students it starts their day off with a smile and a delicious snack to fuel their brains and their bodies. The process is simple, every Friday morning students and staff are provided with free and easy access to bananas, apples, and oranges from our cart or from our volunteers’ baskets. This is all made possible by donations from nearby community partners such as local companies and families. Set up for the Friday morning is also very easy as well, every Thursday a couple volunteers are assigned to organize the produce as seen to the right. This is just another way to involve the community by being able to have a hand in the whole process.
Current Partners
As of the 2023-2024 school year, Fresh Fruit Friday solely works with the PTA and administration of Lake Highlands High School. The program was active before the COVID-19 pandemic, but was revitalized during the 2022-23 school year through the work of Kennedy and Angela Calabrese. Now the organization is going through the process of getting its approval for an official non profit organization title.
Currently Lake Highlands is being provided with two fruit carts with apples, oranges, and bananas every Friday morning. The fruit is available to all students attending the school throughout the entire time of entry/arrival. If any extra fruit is leftover it is left in the front office for the late arrival students, however leftovers are not common because of the high demand and excitement of the students for the produce.
Our goal is to continue the success and expansion of the establishment through the introduction into neighboring schools in the community. If you are interested in more information or in becoming a new partner feel free to contact us at kcalabrese27@gmail.com.
